I have this AU where: Alfred’s the son of a business investor who wants to see what Alaska has to offer. Word is that the Russians have a fine fur business, and Alfred’s father, being a part of a more northern bread basket/pelt former colony is up to the idea of making a new living.

Ivan is a young fur tradesman who’s already established a living on the shoreline of a wooded, sort of rocky beach. He’s got a cottage and a little farm and everything and his favorite thing to do is watch the sun never set.

When Alfred arrives, he finds himself incredibly bored. (He’s from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he’s traveled to the middle of nowhere with his dad whom he sort of doesn’t want to be with). He and his dad settle in a small village, but Alfred ends up going for little adventures by himself and walking the shoreline before he finds himself stumbling upon Ivan’s piece of land.

Ivan is fishing when they first meet, and becomes very defensive over his property while Alfred frantically explains he’s no harm and that he was just wandering from the village nearby. It’s difficult because Ivan’s English isn’t the best.

But, Ivan lowers his guard and they start small talk. Small talk turns into having lunch together, spending the rest of the day together. Then seeing each other every day for months until they’re head over heels for one another with this yearning tension because they don’t truly know if they both feel the same way and are nervous about being judged or persecuted for their love — even if it’s secret.

Eventually they’re inseparable and live off the land together remotely.
